Have you gotten your lips treated with dermal filler recently? Are you wondering why your lips are feeling super dry? Not to fear, this is not a random problem nor are you becoming unwell, this actually is to do with having your lips augmented! Although Dermatologists worldwide have stated that this is quite a rare occurrence amongst their patients that they treat with dermal filler, a few people can experience this.
The dermal filler that we use here at M1 Med Beauty, and that is common amongst other clinics is Hyaluronic acid. This is a natural substance found in our skin that helps to draw in moisture. By injecting more of this, we not only make the lips plumper, but more hydrated. This is usually the case for most people, however although we are hydrating beneath the skin surface, a small amount of people may feel the complete opposite on their skin’s surface.
There is a possibility that your lips may have been irritated by the numbing cream used beforehand. You may have this slight allergic reaction if you feel that you had more swelling and minor bruising than usual post treatment. If this is you, your lips may also be prone to peeling or dryness. It is important not to lick the lips as this will make them more dry. Luckily there are many ways to treat this! Doctors suggest that the best product to apply to your lips is a thick and bland ointment such as Vaseline or Aquaphor. It is also great to use lip moisturisers that contain Shea butter or Vitamin E as these combat dryness really well.
You can also DIY and make a great treatment at home! Here is an easy recipe for a Argan oil moisturising lip balm:
What you’ll need:
- 2 Tbsp of Shea Butter
- 2 Tbsp of Argan Oil
- 1 Tbsp of Beeswax
- 1 Drop of Vitamin E
Steps:
- Put a pot on the stove and pour hot water into it. The water should be hardly simmering.
- Put all of the ingredients in a heat proof bowl into the hot water and let all the ingredients melt together.
- You can test if it is ready by dipping a spoon into the mix and let it solidify. Test the balm and see if you want to add more beeswax for it to be firmer or argan oil for it to be smoother.
- Let your mixture cool.
- Voila! You now have a super moisturising lip balm. You can store it in an airtight container or in cute lip balm tubes.
